For governments, embassies and protocol offices

A gift that says Mexico

Crown Prince Naruhito of Japan receiving a silver D’Argenta sculpture, 1992

Pope John Paul II and Crown Prince Naruhito of Japan, now Emperor, have both received D’Argenta pieces. For a protocol office, a D’Argenta is a gift that is unmistakably Mexican, worthy of its recipient, and made in Mexico City.

What protocol offices ask for

An official gift must represent the country, suit the person who receives it, and travel well — in a case, through security and across oceans. It should also be impossible to mistake for something bought at an airport.

  • Gifts for visiting heads of state, ministers and delegations.
  • Pieces for ambassadors to present on behalf of Mexico abroad.
  • Gifts from governors, mayors and institutions to official guests.
  • Commemorative pieces for treaties, anniversaries and state visits.

Mexico’s own iconography

D’Argenta began in 1976 with a pre-Hispanic figure, the Maya king Pakal, and holds an authorisation from Mexico’s National Museum of Anthropology to reproduce selected objects from the national collection. An Aztec calendar in silver is the piece a Mexican delegation chose for Pope John Paul II.

We also make subjects that belong to your institution or your guest: a coat of arms, a city’s landmark, an animal that carries meaning in the recipient’s country.

Questions from protocol offices

Can a gift be engraved with a dedication?

Yes, on the piece or on its base, in any language, and with the institution’s seal if required.

Can it be delivered in a presentation case?

Yes. Tell us how and where it will be presented and we will propose the case and packing for travel.

Is there a certificate of authenticity?

D’Argenta keeps a registry of every piece it makes, searchable by serial number, so authenticity can always be confirmed.
