How to commission a custom trophy

The Curlin Florida Derby Trophy, a custom trophy in silver and 24-karat gold

A custom trophy is simpler to commission than most people expect. This is the process we follow with every client, from the Spotify Awards to a single award for one person, and what decides how long it takes and what it costs.

The five steps

Every commission moves through the same stages. Only the first needs anything from you beyond a yes or a no.

  1. 01

    The brief

Tell us the occasion, who receives it, how many pieces, the date it must be in hand, and anything the piece must carry: a logo, a name, a symbol. A sketch or a photograph of something you like helps more than any description.

  2. 02

    Design

We return drawings or a 3D render and revise them with you. Most of the decisions that shape the final cost are made here, so this is the moment to ask questions.

  3. 03

    Prototype

Before anything is committed we make a prototype you can hold. A finish is difficult to argue about in words and simple to judge in the hand.

  4. 04

    Production

Once you approve, the piece or the run is made and finished by hand in Mexico City, in silver, 24-karat gold, copper or a combination.

  5. 05

    Engraving and delivery

Names, dates and dedications are engraved per piece, and each is packed for the journey to you.

How long it takes

A very simple piece takes about a week. A complex one takes about a month. The time depends on how many pieces you need, how intricate the design is and how many rounds of revision it takes to get it right — which is why we give a firm date only after we have seen the brief.

If your ceremony date is fixed, say so first. We plan backwards from it.

What decides the price

There is no list price for a custom piece, but the price always moves with the same handful of things:

  • Size and weight: more metal and more surface to finish.
  • Complexity: fine detail, many parts or an unusual form take longer to make and to finish.
  • Finish: silver, 24-karat gold, copper, or gold details on silver.
  • Quantity: the price per piece falls as the run grows — partly economies of scale, partly because a workshop that has made the same shape a few hundred times finds faster ways to make it.
  • Personalisation: individual engraving for each recipient.

Common questions

Is there a minimum order?

No. We will make a single piece.

Can you work from our logo or mascot?

Yes — it is the most common request. Brand icons from McDonald’s, Kellogg’s, Hershey’s and M&M’S have all been made as awards.

Can you reproduce a trophy we already have?

Yes. We can work from the original piece to keep a long-running award identical year after year.

How do I start?

Send us the brief through the quote form, or book a consultation if it is easier to talk it through.
